About this event
Boxing Hares and Other Sledmere Animals: Photography Exhibition by Elise Thomas Discover a moving and inspiring photography exhibition celebrating the life and talent of award-winning young photographer Elise Thomas. Boxing Hares and Other Sledmere Animals showcases a captivating collection of wildlife images captured in and around the Yorkshire village of Sledmere. Curated by Christopher Sykes, the exhibition highlights Elise's remarkable ability to observe and photograph the natural world, revealing the beauty and character of local wildlife through her lens. Following a highly successful launch and national recognition, this special exhibition has been extended, giving visitors even more opportunity to experience Elise's extraordinary work. Elise developed her passion for wildlife photography during the Covid-19 lockdown, spending countless hours patiently documenting the animals and landscapes around her home. Her exceptional talent quickly gained recognition, culminating in her being named RSPCA Young Photographer of the Year in 2021. Tragically, Elise passed away in a road traffic accident last year at the age of 17. This exhibition offers a chance to explore her photographic legacy and celebrate a young artist whose work continues to inspire nature lovers, photographers and visitors alike. Visitors can also purchase selected prints from the exhibition, with all proceeds supporting photography students at East Riding College in Beverley, where Elise studied. Exhibition Information Open daily: 10am to 4pm Free admission Location: Main Entrance Courtyard Fully accessible Please note that the exhibition is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays, except for Bank Holiday Mondays, when it remains open. Whether you're a wildlife enthusiast, photography lover or simply looking for a memorable cultural experience during your visit, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to connect with the landscapes and wildlife that inspired a remarkable young talent.
