About

Hornsea Mere is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire, formed at the end of the Ice Age and now an SSSI and RSPB reserve. In winter look out for gadwall, goldeneye and tufted duck, and reed warblers in the reedbeds in summer. A signed walk links the mere with Hornsea town and the Trans Pennine Trail, and there is a boatyard and cafe at the eastern end.
