About
Howell Wood was planted in the 1700s, mainly as a game reserve, and its northern part is now a country park looked after by Doncaster Council. Look out for the 19th century ice house, which once stored ice cut from the fishing lake. It is a peaceful spot for a woodland stroll, found at the bottom of Burntwood Lane near South Kirkby.
