About

At 86 feet (26 m), Barwick's maypole is said to be the tallest in the UK and stands at the junction of Main Street and the Cross. Every three years on Spring Bank Holiday it is lowered, repaired and raised again, with a villager climbing to the top to spin the fox weather vane. Beside it is a First World War memorial carved to look like an old village cross.
