About
Tuel Lane Lock was built in 1996 when the Rochdale Canal was restored, and with a fall of about 6 metres it is the deepest lock in the UK. It sits next to a short tunnel and is worked by a lock keeper, so if you time it right you can watch boats rise and fall. It is a short stroll from Sowerby Bridge town centre and the canal basin.
Opening times
