About
A council-owned Victorian cemetery opened in 1859, now a wooded Local Wildlife Site and said to be the only cemetery in Britain with an active railway line passing through it. Look out for the grave of George Lambert VC, victims of the 1864 Great Sheffield Flood and the Hillsborough Barracks obelisk. Paths are uneven and overgrown in places; the Friends of Wardsend Cemetery run guided walks.
