About
Winskill Stones is a Plantlife nature reserve of limestone pavement and grassland above Stainforth and Langcliffe, saved from quarrying after an appeal by gardener Geoff Hamilton. Look for cowslips and early purple orchids in spring, ferns in the cracks of the pavement and a large glacial boulder known as Sampson's Toe. Livestock sometimes graze, so keep dogs on leads.
