About
The remains of the old Peak alum works sit on the cliffs north of Ravenscar, now looked after by the National Trust. Alum was used to fix dyes, and the works closed in 1871 once a synthetic substitute was found. Information boards on site explain the process, and the Cleveland Way and Cinder Track both pass close by.
