About

This walk follows the original 1836 Whitby and Pickering Railway from Goathland down to Grosmont, including the old rope-hauled Beckhole Incline. Information boards tell the story of the line, and you pass old railway bridges, Beck Hole and woodland, with Mallyan Spout waterfall a short detour near the start. Many people walk one way and come back on the North York Moors Railway (paid), or make an 8 mile circle.

Opening times

  • Open path, any time. Muddy with steps near the Goathland end
