About
Snickelways are York's narrow alleys and passages between buildings, many of them medieval and most of them public rights of way. The name was coined by Mark W. Jones, whose walk links 50 snickelways inside the city walls, and five of them lead off the Shambles. It is a fun way for families to find hidden corners of the city centre, from tiny Hole in the Wall to longer passages.
