About
Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate is a tiny York street only about 24 metres long, running from Colliergate to Pavement. Its name was first written down in 1505 as Whitnourwhatnourgate and may mean 'neither one thing nor the other street'. Look for the plaque on the old St Crux parish hall, which offers its own explanation.
